Knee high boots, top part too small!?

I have a pair of faux- patent leather knee high boots that fit my foot fine. my problem is that I have large calves, and the boot will not zip around them. they zip about 3/4 of the way up. are there any tried and true products or ways to stretch the top out?

You may have to buy one size bigger or buy wide sizes.

I have a similar problem. I have tiny feet so boots are always to small at the top.
Reply:I feel your pain. I'm a small person with naturally curvy calves and boots are a nightmare for me. I have never found a good way to stretch out boots that don't zip. They just don't stretch that far, and even if you did manage to cut off your blood supply to get them zipped up, you'd be miserable all night. I've resorted to only buying boots that have stretch fabric uppers, but if you *have* to use these boots, and can sew, you can always cut the seams partway down and put in a V-shaped panel of elastic fabric. You'll need a large, strong needle to do this if the leather is thick. Check out boots at the department stores; many of them have this sort of panel sewn in and you can get ideas of how it should look there. Or, you can slit them down the front, back, or side and put holes all the way up and turn them into lace up boots; it won't look professional, but will probably work just fine for Halloween if you wear them with knee-high stockings of the same color underneath. Good luck!
Reply:You can add some elastic to the top part of the boot. I would suggest cutting down an existing seam and hand sewing a triangular piece of black elastic in. Check with your local fabric shop for the elasic and they'll probably have some ideas as to how to go about it. Otherwise, check Walmart or Target for some cheap boots with the elastic already in them.
Reply:If you can get them zipped at all- even if it's uncomforable- maybe you could wear them around your house so they will stretch. If not, I would talk to a shoe repair place to see if they could stretch them. Also- for future reference, if you buy wide width shoes, the shaft of the boot tends to run a little larger too. Hope this helps!
Reply:Take it to a cobbler. The cobbler can alter it to fit you calves. (kinda like how a tailor can alter your clothes)
