What makes a durable pair of boots (suitable for LOTS of walking/running)?

So what makes a durable pair of boots?

Points to consider:

Construction method/quality/country of origin?

Materials?

What kind of soles?

I expect to be doing 40 miles a week in these boots so durability is more of a concern to me than price.

If you can go further and make a recommendation, I would like a pair of boots that:

are Black

Leather (easy to clean)

Have Steel Toe Caps

and go up on the leg like real boots (have more eyelets..not like the 'trainer boots)

What makes a durable pair of boots (suitable for LOTS of walking/running)?
getting a full grain leather boot rather than say nubuck leather will increase durability. Soles consider the type of terrain you'll cover flat path's, trails, get something with a flexible sole however if it's more rougher terrain/hills you'll cover look for a much stiffer sole. Get that wrong and you can wear through sole pretty quick.

Also look to see how the upper of the boot is constructed if it's lots of leather pieces stitched together it has a better chance of breaking than if it's one or two pieces.

Hi-tec Magnum as stated previous is a good budget shout (paying around £50) should be available in Millets, check out Meindl Burma boots also. (available i some Blacks stores)
Reply:First of all, you'll want real leather and none of that imitation stuff. Cloths like canvas and nylon (like the kind used in shoulder straps) are quite durable as well. Forget those white foam soles, and even rubber wears out against abrasive surfaces after a lot of use. The best soles I found were a sort of oil-resistant and dense brown foam found on steel-toe work boots. The brand was Brahma if i remember correctly.

My Brahma work boots were great, but I didn't put nearly as many miles in them as I did in a pair of modern combat boots. Some people complain about the comfort, but I love them for a cheap, durable, all purpose boot that I can depend on.
Reply:If you want a boot that is for running and hiking then you dont need steel toe caps as these are heavy also leather boots arent as good as the new materials available as for makes check out merrel if you want steel toe caps lookfor working boots eg from dewalt
Reply:i have the perfect type of boot for you they are called Magnums, leather black easy to clean

but beware of the cheap copies like grafters
Reply:Pick a well known make, because they are usually well known for fantastic shoes.

Don't buy cheap shoes, expensive shoes are known to last well.

Buy a deasant material. Not suede or anything silly like that! (DUH!)

Lolzzz.

hope this helps.

Reply:Magnums; these boots are awesome, they are so comfortable when you wear them you think they are trainers. They are durable, you can get steel capped ones too.
