Is a black sweater dress & boots okay for a January wedding?

I am going to an evening wedding in January, have a new black sweater cowlneck dress and was thinking of wearing it with classy, simple leather high boots. Is this too morbid for a wedding? I could wear a dressy cocktail ring with it as well. I really don't want to go with strapless as it is January...

as long as it looks dressy..

it kinda sounds casual dress
Reply:you are totally fine!! some women just prefer black and so long as its a polished look you should be just fine!! make sure to lighten your makeup (dont do that dark as well) and add a little color with your earings and necklace (if you chose to wear one)
Reply:NOOO! Weddings are totally formal. You HAVE to dress nicer than that. Try a wrap dress or a really cute thin one from www.charlotte-russe.com
Reply:I think you'll look great! Just add some color, maybe a bold red belt to flatter your waistline and a matching red clutch. Or maybe a colorful scarf to drape around your neck. I love accessorizing with scarves! Have fun! :-)
Reply:As people have mentioned before, it does depend on how formal the occasion will be. As for the COLOR of the dress, black is perfectly fine to wear to a wedding! Why do you think ppl always talk about finding the perfect little black dress? Cause you can wear it anywhere!

I agree with the person who said knee-high boots may not be appropriate. The outfit sounds really cute for a day on the town in the city, or something. But for a wedding I'd skip the boots and find a nice pair of heels.

I hope you find a great outfit that's cute and comfy! Have fun at the wedding!
Reply:I've seen people wear worse to weddings!!

I think knee boots are inappropriate for a wedding. And black, accessorized or otherwise is too dull.

Get a nice fancy dress and heels. Doesn't have to be strapless! And get a nice little blazery type jacket or cardi.

Monsoon all the way!
Reply:An evening wedding. It depends ... will this event be black tie because if so then obviously the answer is no. If they haven't listed a dress code, you should ask a person close to the wedding party. You actually sound like you would be underdressed.
Reply:Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think black for a wedding is hideous! A wedding is a time of happy celebration. Black just doesn't say that for me.
