pending on the size of the tear you need a very strong needle and some very strong twine as used by shomakers, and than using a cross stitch close the tear tighly together , than , pending in which the area of the tear is i would use hot wax (bees) or tallow and put it along the seam and in between the stiches to waterproof the area again.
