Removing pen marks on nubuck leather?

A shop sold me a pair of Timberland boots cheap because there is a strong ballpoint pen mark on the wheat nubuck leather. The shop assistant said it's difficult to remove and just wait for it to fade. Anyone know of way to remove the pen mark, or make it less visible?

Ballpoint pen ink is normally oil based, you can use some dry corn starch on the area DO NOT GET WET. pat over the area and leave for several hours. It will often wick up the oil and with it alot of the ink. You can then take some 400 grit sand paper and sand over the area. Nubuck is just a leather where the epidermis is abraided to a light nap, so you can remove some old nap and bring up new- dont focus in just one spot or you can end up with a light area- blend out.
Reply:DO NOT use anything wet on it or it will make matters worse. The shop assistant was right it is difficult. You can try a suede brush or Nubuck cloth which will help remove residues on the surface but other than that you will have trouble getting any more out. It will fade over time.
