Any way of Changing the color of a pair of boots?

I have a pair of dancing boots which are red. they are an old pair and i dont really care what happens to them and my instructor recently informed me that i need a white pair... he suggested we try painting them because we've both seen it done from red to black.

but if i were going to paint them how could i do so without the paint flaking.. because its really soft leather, or is there even a way of dying them?

or is this a losing battle and should i just buy a pair of white boots which are about 500 dollars :S

thx guys

you can die them or have them dyed. used a dye removal product first. Neither is very expensive. Try a shoe repair shop
Reply:I'd go Ebay and find some used boots, rather than spend that much on a new pair. Had you considered first spraying it with gray primer, then after it had completely dried, spray (or brush) it with high-gloss white paint ?? The primer paint is a bonding agent to minimize the chances of the top-layer paint from flaking and peeling.
Reply:paint? hmm..haven't heard that one but you can take it to a really good shoemaker or someone who does shoes and you can get it dyed...shouldn't be a trace of red on those boots =]
Reply:you can try using white shoe polish . I have done this before to my tennis shoes %26amp; repaint them whenever they need it. good luck
