Fixing cracked leather shoes?

I have a relitavely new pair of military boots, the day after I got them cracking showed through in all of the leather. This is my 3rd pair of bots in a month, and the CO's gonna muder me (or at least make me clean the toilets for the next year) if I ask for another pair. Is there a cheap, easy way to fix these crack with some normal stuff you might find on a navy boat? (please don't say go buy this or that...)

thanks!

Fixing cracked leather shoes?
I'm not sure what's normal on a navy boat, but I'd use some brown shoe cream and just work that in there after you've broken the shoes in.

Here's a thought; I always kept two pairs. If I was going to be inspected, I wore my nice pair that I kept shined and in a bag to protect it from dust. My other pair was immaculate (I enjoy shining for some reason, repetitive motion I guess) but I used them for day to day.

If you're on a boat, find some creme for the boots. It will take forever to work the stuff in there, and don't use a lighter to firebase with creme. Works with polish, not creme.

Take an old T-shirt (no sweat or grease stains though), start with a liberal amount of creme and work it in in wide circles. It will probably take four or five hours to get them looking perfect over two or three days, but the end result is gorgeous. Remember, you're working the polish into the pores of the boot, and be gentle with them.

Let me know if you need any other info. Good luck.
Reply:Oh are you sure there the right size ? If they are too big they will crack easy like that . I'd try melting a whole bunch of wax into the boots and using that as a base .
Reply:Are these working boots or parade boots? If they are working boots, you should be able to rescue them with Dubbin or a similar leather grease. Neatsfoot oil was the old way.

Are any of your mates' boots showing similar signs? If so, it might be a good idea to talk to the Pusser or QM (depending on which service!) about what is happening.
